Why choose Telkom Fibre?
Telkom is unrivalled in fibre deployment in South Africa with a national terrestrial fibre network that spans more than 147,000 km. The company has successfully designed and deployed fibre solutions to support big business in the country and there is no doubt that the depth of skills and experience in the organisation is best suited to take fibre access into the homes and small businesses of South Africans.
The company has ownership in EASSy, WACS, EIG, S3WS, SMW3 and the Columbus-3 undersea cable systems. Telkom’s proven track record in managing complete submarine cable environments, which is largely fibre-based, gives the Company the competitive edge in managing end-to-end ICT requirements utilising fibre.
Telkom’s fibre network rollout started in the mid 1990’s with provisioning of ATM services on fibre. ATM services catered for bandwidths ranging from 2Mbps to STM1 (155Mbps) and multiple STM’s.
These services were taken up by Corporates and Government Departments and Other Licensed Operators that used it as the backbone for their own networks. The ATM network has been declared obsolete and Telkom are migrating these services to our Next Generation Network (NGN) which is based on Ethernet technology which is also fibre-based.
The Company’s MetroLAN and MetroLINK products are provisioned on the Metro Ethernet platform and already supports more than 2200 fibre-based services. Some of the customers that have partnered with Telkom for their fibre needs include Netcare, South African Police Services, SASOL, Standard Bank, ABSA, Nedbank, FNB, MediClinic, and Nampak. This product ranges from 2Mbps to 1Gbps.
Telkom also provisions fibre for Disaster Recovery and Storage Area Networks (SAN) purposes and provides fibre connectivity for various LAN’s. LAN Connect is the product that caters for this business need and bandwidth ranges from 1Gbps to 100Gbps. Our biggest customers on this product are Gauteng Provincial Government, Standard Bank, ABSA, Dimension Data, SITA, Nampak, Road Accident Fund, Woolworths, Shoprite Checkers and SASOL.
